Green Building
Protecting the environment comes as second nature to us at Parkwood Homes. Every home we build is Energy Star qualified, so you’ll automatically conserve more energy and spend less on your utilities. To receive the Energy Star label, your home’s heating, cooling and water heating systems must be at least 30% more efficient than a comparable home built to the Model Energy Code. You can be confident that your home is performing efficiently because we use independent home energy raters who analyze construction plans and conduct onsite inspections before approving each residence. Listed below are just a few of our environmentally friendly techniques:
- All homes Energy Star compliant
- Solar design options can be customized to specific house types available. See Sales Representative for details.
- Double-pane, Low-E glass windows with removable screens
- Low VOC paints used on all interiors walls and ceilings
- All exterior walls framed with 2x6 studs in lieu of 2x4, to provide greater depth of insulation and higher than typical r-value
- Blown-in insulation used in all 1st, 2nd and third floor exterior walls to minimize voids and gaps which are common with batt insulation
- All ductwork joints are sealed with mastic to minimize air leakage
- Standard programmable thermostat to maximize efficiency and comfort
- Ductwork in each home is pressure tested by an independent testing company to assure that duct leakage does not exceed 10% (versus 20% - 30% in typical American homes)
- A thermal bypass inspection is completed in each home by an independent energy rating company, to verify proper construction techniques and compliance with Energy Star requirements prior to installation of drywall within each home
- An independent testing firm completes a blower door test on each home to verify that air leakage within the entire home meets Energy Star standards
